Preferred Specimen

Submit 2 mL of liquid stool in Cary Blair transport medium.

Ensure the container is filled to the designated fill line. Keep the specimen refrigerated.

Note: If multiple tests are requested, provide a separate sample specifically for this test.

Alternate Specimen Requirements

Acceptable alternatives include 2 mL of liquid stool collected in a Para-Pak® container or a sterile container.

Refrigeration is required.

Note: As with the preferred specimen, a dedicated sample must be submitted if multiple tests are ordered.

Methodology

Multiplex Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR).
Positive results are presumptive and must be
confirmed by FDA-cleared tests or other

  • Testing will only be performed on liquid stool
    samples.
