Preferred Specimen
Collect 1 mL of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), pericardial, pleural, or synovial fluid using a body fluid collection container.
Centrifuge the sample to remove any cellular material, then transfer 1 mL of the clear fluid into a plastic transport tube.
Refrigerate the sample and clearly label the tube with the source.
Be sure to indicate the sample source on the requisition form.
